Bruce Dowell Facing a Variable Annuity Dispute

Bruce Dowell (CRD #: 2282070), a broker registered with NYLife Securities, is involved in a new investor dispute, according to his BrokerCheck record, accessed on September 21, 2021. This is his seventh investor dispute. Investors who have concerns about his conduct as a broker should keep reading.

On July 15, 2021, an investor alleged that Bruce Dowell did not accurately explain fees and variable annuities. Variable annuities come with different fees and the contracts are often too complex for investors (and brokers) to understand. The fees can negate any benefit that the variable annuity supposedly offers. This makes most variable annuities unsuitable for most investors.

There is a similar dispute on his record. On March 24, 2016, a MetLife investor alleged that Bruce Dowell did not fully explain a variable life insurance policy (VUL). The firm denied the dispute, but denials do not mean the case has gone through FINRA arbitration. Denials simply mean that the firm denies their representative engaged in financial misconduct. Investors can still recover their losses following a denial.

Bruce Dowell has three other disputes on his record that allege he recommended an unsuitable VUL. All three of the investor disputes were denied by his firm.
