Investor Alleges Barry Bruner’s Advice Resulted in Losses

Barry Bruner (CRD #: 1565469), a broker registered with Stifel, Nicolaus & Company, was recently the subject of an investor dispute, according to his BrokerCheck record, accessed on March 14, 2023. Keep reading if you want to know more about his alleged conduct as a broker.

Investor Dispute

On February 12, 2023, an investor filed a dispute alleging that Barry Bruner advised them that municipal bond funds were safe investments, but that their investments in certain funds ultimately resulted in losses.

The client alleged that this occurred between March 27, 2020, and May 31, 2022. They sought $52,209.13 in damages but the firm denied the dispute.

However, investors should know that firms don’t need to permit an external review before denying a dispute. Investors may be able to recoup their losses by seeking out FINRA arbitration following a denial.

FINRA Rule 2111

FINRA Rule 2111 requires brokers to recommend securities that adequately fit an investor’s financial goals. Brokers must take into account an investor’s age, tax status, and other information contained in their profile.

Investors who rely on brokers for recommendations may be able to recover their lost funds through FINRA arbitration.
