Alessandro Spinetta Suspended by CME Group

Suspension by CME Group

On February 28, 2025, the Panel of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) Business Conduct Committee allegedly found that Alessandro Spinetta violated CME Rule 534 by entering buy and sell orders in currency futures that, in part, traded against each other. These orders were allegedly entered for accounts with common beneficial ownership in order to hedge their currency exposure.

Alessandro Spinetta was fined $30,000 and suspended from direct or indirect access to certain markets and trading floors owned or controlled by CME Group. His suspension ran from February 28 to March 6, 2025.

CME Rule 534

CME Rule 534 prohibits placing buy and sell orders for the same product against each other, known as wash trades, in order to give the appearance of legitimate market activity.
