Sean Gordon Suspended by FINRA Over Alleged Outside Business Activity

Sean Gordon (CRD #: 3057652), a broker formerly registered with J.P. Morgan Securities, has been suspended by FINRA, according to his BrokerCheck record, accessed on January 5, 2023. Keep reading if you have questions about his alleged conduct as a broker.
FINRA Suspension
On December 1, 2022, Sean Gordon consented to the entry of findings that he allegedly engaged in an outside business activity without providing prior written notice to his firm, J.P. Morgan Securities.
A Letter of Acceptance, Waiver & Consent (AWC) alleged that Sean Gordon operated an insurance business between August 2019 and May 2021 while associated with J.P. Morgan Securities. He allegedly serviced insurance policies on behalf of his clients, received $33,000 in compensation, and applied for and received a loan in connection with this business.
The AWC alleged that Sean Gordon did not provide J.P. Morgan Securities with written notice before engaging in this business activity, but did notify the firm in approximately December 2019. However, he allegedly continued to operate his business after the firm denied him approval until his termination from the firm in May 2021.
The AWC concluded that this alleged misconduct constituted violations of FINRA Rules 3270 and 2010.
FINRA Rule 3270
FINRA Rule 3270 requires brokers to disclose any business activities they engage in outside their firm, as well as any compensation they may receive from these activities.
FINRA Rule 2010
FINRA Rule 2010 holds brokers to high standards of commercial honor and just and equitable principles of trade.
Sanctions
Sean Gordon consented to the following sanctions:
- $5,000 fine
- 2-month suspension
His suspension began on December 5, 2022, and will end on February 4, 2023.
