Employment Separation After Allegations 

On July 23, 2024, Popular Securities fired Gian Piovanetti following allegations that he was involved in a transaction executed on behalf of a private fund for which the Firm serves as an investment advisor. 

  • Gian Piovanetti allegedly did not have the necessary approval from the Funds’s investment committee.
  • He allegedly directed the disbursement of Fund assets in connection with the transaction prior to executing the relevant agreements, and 
  • Disbursed at least $562,000 of those funds for the benefit of entities owned by the employee and/or members of his family, and 
  • Failed to to follow applicable policies, including using his personal email for matters related to the transaction, and 
  • Made what appeared to be false statements during interviews conducted as part of the internal review of the transaction.
