Investor Claims Esmeralda Espinoza Recommended Unsuitable Insurance Policies

Esmeralda Espinoza (CRD #:6198418), a broker formerly registered with First Financial Equity Corporation, is involved in an investor dispute, according to her BrokerCheck record, accessed on January 19, 2022.

According to the allegations filed on October 20, 2021, Esmeralda Espinoza sold an investor five separate Variable Universal Life (VUL) policies that the customer did not understand. VULs are quite complex, and brokers should make sure their investors understand the risks.  

A broker must have exercised due diligence and have an adequate reason for believing that an investment will also be suitable or beneficial for the investor. Under FINRA Rule 2111, registered brokers may be held liable if they provide an unsuitable investment recommendation. FINRA requires that brokers consider their investor’s financial goals when they recommend investments.
