Brent Greninger Fired by Raymond James & Associates Following Allegations

Mar 28, 2022 Selling Away

Brent Greninger (CRD #: 5810070) has been fired from Raymond James & Associates. This is according to his BrokerCheck record, accessed on March 24, 2022. The details of his termination are provided below.

On December 17, 2021, Raymond James & Associates fired Brent Greninger following allegations that he violated the firm’s internal policy governing selling away. “Selling away” is a type of misconduct in which stockbrokers sell securities outside of the scope of their business with their firm, in violation of FINRA Rule 3280. Unapproved outside securities transactions take place without firm supervision, possibly exposing the investor to more risk.

On September 20, 2021, investors alleged that Brent Greninger recommended an unsuitable investment and unapproved outside private investment. He also allegedly improperly recommended that the investor fund the investment by trading on margin—a.k.a. with money borrowed from the firm. Utilizing margin magnifies the chance for losses. The investor sought $500,000; the dispute settled for $150,000.
