FINRA Rule 2020

FINRA Rule 2020 forbids the use of manipulative, deceptive, or otherwise fraudulent tactics to influence investors’ decisions. Misrepresenting an investment’s features, limitations, or requirements violates this rule.

What are VULs?

A Variable Universal Life insurance policy (VUL) has two notable features: a tax-free death benefit for beneficiaries and an investment portfolio. A portion of each premium payment is invested—but the policy’s value depends on the performance of these investments, and is not guaranteed to increase. Further, VULs are often at risk for lapsing, which negates their tax benefits.
